WEEK ONE - 20 JULY 2017

So now that we have things in full swing, we are changing the format of our blogs to illustrated versions.  No more lengthy pieces to read, well that's the plan!

We began with Science and discovery!  In the picture, you see coloured water containers on either side with an empty container (before we began the experiment) in the middle. Using tissue paper, the containers were connected to the that, in the middle. This allowed for the liquid in the containers on either side to transfer its content to the container in the middle. The point was, how liquid moves, through a medium. The life example was - how roots absorb water. The other phenomenon was the creation of a secondary colour! I.E. the red and blue liquids made the colour, purple.

Oh wow!  Water moves through tissue paper and colours mix to make another!

Joseph and Richa the oldest in our group of Summer Slammers, was joined by Eden (who wants to be counted in that lot), made notes of their observations from the experiment, and with their permission, we are posting these within the photo album for today.   Good work, children!  Link to the photo album for July 20, 2017.

We completed our poster of the great African Safari by painting the majestic elephant and the cheeky monkey!

‘I Want to Hold your Hand’ read the caption on the shoulder bags that we decorated. The inspiration? You guessed it The Beatles. The famous song from the Beatles. We hummed the tune as we decorated our bags. “Oh yeah, I, tell you something…”

'Beatlemania' continues with decorative shoulder bags for craft.

We had an active session of music with Jennifer, the Percussionist.  Today, we used different instruments shakers, sticks and hand drums.  We learnt to keep to rhythm using the shakers, sticks and hand drums.

Lunchtime Reading by Aunty May - 'The boy who biked the world' (A chapter book based on the author's bike ride through Africa)

Our special and healthy snack for the day was the hungry caterpillar- green grapes on a skewer with a cherry tomato and (inserted) chocolate chips. Yum!

Making the 'Hungry Caterpillars!

L-R:  Zita & Eden

We made a little garden patch as part of our outdoor activity and Zita is seen in the picture holding a 'planter; that we made from a plastic bottle.  We are hopeful about harvesting, aromatic, spring onions, to introduce as our next Pizza topping.  Will that sell?

Also, in the exercise, a DIY water sprinkler, that Eden is using as a sprinkler, to water bulbs, (made by perforating a used plastic bottle). We did explain about water being absorbed, by roots and bulbs, with reference to the experiment done earlier.

It's all about the bulbs.....

Serious practice time with Uncles Dennis and Sathish in preparation for our basketball match tomorrow!

Preparations for the match tomorrow!  Ringside seats are not available. Only blogged views are possible!

It was then time to eat our hungry caterpillars.

The Hungry Caterpillar met its match with our hungry Slammers and that was it!

Till tomorrow, good evening from,
